A total of 13 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, including Xinjiang, Chongqing, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Guangxi, Yunnan and Tibet, are involved in the Silk Road Economic Belt.
China’s Shanghai municipality and the four provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Hainan are the participants of the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road.

The Belt and Road Initiative is the abbreviation of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the twenty-first Century Maritime Silk Road (abbreviated BRI). It consists of two main components, the land-based “Silk Road Economic Belt” and oceangoing “21st century Maritime Silk Road “.
The initiative focuses on promoting policy coordination, connectivity of infrastructure and facilities, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and closer people-to-people ties through extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, with the goal of bringing benefits to all.
